Prohibited by Ordinance

Addison Ordinance defines the entire family Mustelidae as wild animals, then goes on to prohibit the keeping of wild animals.  Code dated 5/2000.

Allen Ordinance definition of pet animals specifically excludes ferrets.   The ordinance further defines prohibited animal to include the entire family Mustelidae.   The family name is followed by a parenthetical listing of common names of example animals which includes the word ferrets.  The copy of the code reviewed for this was current through 12/1999.  More than a year prior to that date citizens of Allen reported being told by Animal Control that ferrets were now legal and at least one was issued a license tag for a ferret.  Be extremely cautious, and check to see if the code has been updated!

Coppell The ordinance defines prohibited animal to include the entire family Mustelidae.  The family name is followed by a parenthetical listing of common names of example animals which includes the word ferrets. Code dated 8/2000.

Dallas The ordinance defines prohibited animal to include the entire family Mustelidae.  The family name is followed by a parenthetical listing of common names of example animals which includes the word ferrets.  Some pet stores in Dallas have told club members that they can legally carry ferrets because they don't actually sell the ferret... they sell a ferret care kit and then give the purchaser a ferret to go with it.  This is false.  The codes specifically prohibit the sale, barter, or giving away of any prohibited animal.  Copy of code came from a library copy and was obtained 1/1998.  Library copies are sometimes out of date.

Euless The ordinance defines prohibited animal to include the entire family Mustelidae.  Code dated 6/2000.

Friendswood The ordinance specifically includes ferrets in the definition of "wild animal" and then goes on to prohibit the keeping of wild animals.   Code dated 3/2000.

Grapevine The ordinance specifically includes ferrets in the definition of "wild animal" and then goes on to prohibit the keeping of wild animals.   Code dated 11/2000.

Mesquite The ordinance specifically includes ferrets in the definition of "wild animal" and then goes on to prohibit the keeping of wild animals.   Also contains a statement that "...because they have a high probability of carrying rabies and constitute a danger to public health..." certain animals will not be allowed in the city followed with a list of animals that includes ferrets.   Residents should pursue code changes modeled on Highland Park using the 2001 Compendium of Rabies Control, Texas Administrative Code Title 25/ Part 1/ Chapter 169, and rabies shedding studies completed with CDC as support documents.   Code dated 1/2001.
